Pray
Funeral Home would like to announce that we are sponsoring a program to help
individuals who have lost a spouse or close family member. The
educational series entitled Five Steps to New Skills is open to all who have
experienced a loss and need to learn new skills to readjust or rebuild a new
life.
“A program like
this hasn’t been done before in the Community of Charlotte” said Lori Poyer,
“It will be a great benefit to people who have experienced a loss”
The classes will
focus on a series of helpful topics that newly widowed people may not have much
experience in.
The topics will
include simple home and auto maintenance, cooking for one person, simple home
finances, and a final class that will cover how families can handle the first
anniversaries, birthday, or holidays following the death of a family member.
“We have been told by many people we have taken care of, that these
areas are often new skills that a person my have to learn to take care of after
a spouse dies” said Joe E. Pray, he continued, “In many cases these are
things they never had to worry about because their spouse always took care of
it for them.”
The program will
be held five consecutive Monday’s starting May 23 at 6 PM at Pray Funeral Home.
Each one-hour presentation will feature
local professionals. The first week will feature Lori Poyer of Maximum
Living Associates and the Staff Grief Counselor for Pray Funeral Home.
The meeting will focus on the construction of Prayer Flags in memory of
their family members and a short ceremony in the gardens behind Pray
Funeral Home.
The next weeks
topic “Cooking For One” will be on June 6. It will feature Dottie
Berkompas, Program Assistant with MSU Extension. She will cover the basis
for developing simple cooking skills for those who have never had them. The
June 13 program will feature Louie Hertrich of Eaton Car Care on simple auto
maintenance and Jerry Sommer of General Contractor and owner of Sommer Building
Corporation on Home maintenance. The topic on June 20 will cover
financial matters. This will feature Martin Latchaw, CPA with Latchaw
Financial Services.
The final program
on June 27 will feature Lori Poyer on “How To Handle The Firsts”
This
will focus on facing birthdays, anniversaries and other meaningful events after
losing a family member.
“It is our
responsibility to help families cope with the challenges they will face after
losing a spouse or family member, ”said Tyler Pray of Pray Funeral Home, “This
series is one of the ways we provide that help, that’s what we do.”
Anyone from the
