Honoring Life

It's important to take the time to celebrate the legacy of a person: the individuality of their personality, the uniqueness of their life’s path, and the special memories accumulated over the years. A life celebration, funeral or memorial service is not just for them, its for you too. It affirms the relationship you had and leads to healing after your loss. Honoring their life is truly an act of love – for the both of you.You are welcome to call us at (517) 543-2950 or email us with any questions.  We will be happy to answer you questions.

Setting the stage

Setting the stage

At Pray Funeral Home, our approach to developing a personalized funeral can be expressed in terms of "Setting the Stage" for a family's time to gather with their friends

Our goal is to draw in the personality of the deceased as told to us through the stories that the family shares with us. Sharing these stories during the service gives great comfort to the surviving family members and friends in many ways. Sharing stories often imparts the knowledge of a lesson learned from the deceased's activities, or the deceased's philosophies. Bringing the memories to mind can help reveal a sense of purpose in the life they lived.

We use many tools to accomplish this on a regular basis. The first tool is our own imagination. This has helped us develop a variety of props that we have made ourselves, or assembled from many sources. A one-third scale rowboat, a complete sand castle, camouflaged material to cover a display table, a putting green ready to roll out at the foot of the casket. These items, and many others, help trigger the pleasant memories that family and friends have. This helps to stimulate conversation about the deceased's interests, thus making it easier for visitors to lend their support. Remembering these stories can be comforting and therapeutic for a grieving family member.

We are always ready to develop, assemble, or build appropriate pieces to help tell an individual's life story. "Setting The Stage" for a family challenges us to be imaginative in a respectful manner. How do we include the deceased in the service? How about bringing in that eight-point buck trophy mount. We’ll take down the oil paintings that decorate the visitation room and hang it on the wall. Let's place that prized pheasant mount among the flowers in the visitation room so it looks like it is flying right out of the bush. How about sand castles on the beach at the foot of the casket? Lets bring in Grand mother's sewing or afghans or quilts and display them on her quilt rack or antique table. Or how about enlarging pictures of Granddad fishing with his grand kids placed on the seats of a miniature rowboat pulled up on the bank of granddad's favorite fishin' hole.

These are all parts of the stages we have set at Pray Funeral Home for numerous families we have served. The families have been very pleased with our ideas so far. We look forward to "Setting The Stage" for the families we serve in the future.
