September 26, 1928 - September 29, 2019
Edwin “Ed” Dee Carpenter, a caring, generous, and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, of Potterville, died Sunday, September 29, 2019 surrounded by his family. Ed, 91, was born September 26, 1928, in Grand Ledge, to Frank and Susan (Church) Carpenter. He spent his birthday with his loving family by his side. Ed proudly served his country in the Air force serving in the Korean War. Following his service Ed married his sweetheart Frances Loveland on July 14, 1952 and together spent the next 67 years creating their legacy together. Ed and Fran were both very active in the churches that they attended. He was the type of man that devoted himself to his family and his career. Ed worked at General Motors as a Conveyor Attendant Line Feeder, retiring from GM after 32 years. When Ed was not working, he enjoyed playing cards, and dominos. Ed also had a love for cars, he owned a 68 and 69 Mustang. Later in his life his big passion was traveling to his grandchildren’s sporting events. One of Ed’s biggest achievements in his life was the softball field that he built in their backyard, for his children. This field was used by the entire neighborhood and the community. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Fran; children, Jeff (Sandy) Carpenter, Donnis Eshelman, Denise Wilson, and Jenella (TJ) Smith; daughter-in-law, Kathy Carpenter; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and brother, John Carpenter. He was predeceased by his son, Greg Carpenter; 9 brothers; 3 sisters; and his parents. Friends are encouraged to support Ed’s family. Funeral services are Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at The Liberty Church in Grand Ledge, with Pastor Tom Surdenik and Pastor Duane Royston officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. If desired, the family suggests memorial contributions to Grace Hospice or to the Family payable to Fran Carpenter. Friends and family are encouraged to share memories of Ed on his Tribute Page at www.PrayFuneral.com. The family is in the care of Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
