John Joseph Farhat, known for his love for family, food, and a good football game, went to be with The Lord on March 3, 2021. John, 81 was born January 20, 1940 in Lansing to Joseph and Ida (Nouhan) Farhat. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family who will miss him very much. John lived most of his life in Lansing, graduating from St. Mary High School. On October 20, 1962, he married the love of his life, Sylvia Durling, and later had 6 children together. John worked for Reo Motors and later General Motors until retiring in 2000. The next 11 years were spent in Copper Harbor MI, with his wife, Sylvia, where he worked in maintenance at the Eagle Lodge and enjoyed beautiful Lake Superior. In 2011 they returned to Lansing to be closer to loved ones and he began driving a school bus for Grand Ledge schools. John loved his Lebanese heritage and often filled his home with family and great Lebanese food. All who knew him felt loved and accepted, and Johnny (a name used by many friends and family) was always good for a laugh. Attributes he will always be remembered for include: integrity, caring, faithful, loving and humble. He was a true example to all who knew him and his love for Jesus was evident, especially with his caring for his wife and family. John is survived and missed very much by his children, Angela (John) Tisdale, Tim (Kelly) Farhat, Mike (Ann) Farhat, Paul (Jenni) Farhat, Bethany Farhat, Faith (Nick) Balanowski; grandchildren who knew him as Papa or Jido, Amber (Matt) Carr, April (Jason) Alleman, Joseph (Alice) Tisdale, Victoria (Mike) Leveille, Autumn, James, Alyssa, Arison, Melanie (Garrett) Hedin, Natalie ,Amiya, Isabelle, Tiffany, Timothy, Ava, Ashlyn, Trinity, Aubry, Eli, Jada, Sevren, Brooke, Josiah, Veronica, Asante, and Kainen; great-grandchildren, Areya, Kohen, Pierce, Madeleine, Theodore, Aurora, Haylah, Evangeline, Adeline, Silas and Cooper; brothers-in-law, Jim Durling, Jerry Durling, Paul Kramer, George Mansour; sisters-in-law, Paula Hedglen and Dee Farhat. Also, Molly Girl, their beloved dog of 12 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Farhat and Ida M. (Nouhan) Farhat; his loving wife of 58 years, Sylvia L. (Durling) Farhat; grandson, Mitchell Farhat; siblings, Cecilia Farhat, Joseph Farhat, Kathryn Kramer, Gloria Mansour, Mariann Farhat, Leo Farhat, Norman Farhat, Maurice Farhat, and Ralph Farhat; sisters-in-law, Virginia Farhat, and Marina Farhat; and brother-in-law, Dean Hedglen. A celebration of John’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 9. 2021, 11:00 AM at Charlotte Assembly of God with Pastor Shane Bryant officiating. Visitation is Monday, March 8, 4-7:00 PM at the Charlotte Assembly of God. Family and friends are encouraged to support John’s family. Masks are required for those in attendance.
