Richard Andrew 'Andy' Stokes
January 1, 1955 - March 13, 2020
Richard Andrew "Andy" Stokes, a man who lived a hard life of extreme living, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020. Andy, 65, was born on January 1, 1955 in Lansing, Michigan. When asked where he originated from, Andy would often reply "Pluto." He was a loving, one-of-a-kind father. Andy loved the outdoors and all sports. He enjoyed teaching his children sports, and they fondly remember playing catch in the streets (often stopping traffic); maybe that is where his saying, "Go play in the street, just watch for vehicles" came from. They also enjoyed playing midnight basketball and watching airplanes take off with his children. He loved his sports teams: MSU, Lugnuts, Tigers, Red Wings, and Lions. Andy had been a truck driver and a crane operator at Demmer. When asked what he was most proud of Andy would reply "My children, and grandchildren…especially my grandchildren." He is survived by his children, Jeanie Ogger, Steve (Jenny) Stokes, James (Ashley) Stokes, and Tracy (Aaron) Shrum; grandchildren, Skyler Ogger, Ashlynn Ogger, Savannah Shrum, Ann Shrum, Radley Ogger, Destinee Shrum, Tyler Stokes, Isabella Stokes, Caroline Stokes, and Thomas Stokes; great-grandchildren, Andrew Stokes and Lilly Catt. Andy was predeceased by his mother Dorothy (Shaw) Stokes and his beloved dogs J.J. and Bear. Friends are encouraged to support Andy's family at a memorial gathering on Saturday, July 18, 3:00 PM at 5536 Otto Road, Charlotte. Friends and family are encouraged to share memories of Andy on his Tribute Page at www.PrayFuneral.com. The family is in the care of Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
